Optimistic Enthusiast

Another Monday has arrived in my life and so far is off to a great start! I am sitting at my desk drinking coffee out of my Ellen DeGeneres mug, listening to acoustic covers, and blogging! How is that not the recipe for A GREAT MONDAY??!?! Also let us take one moment to appreciate John Mayer's new songs!

Anyway, Monday. I have made today great so far! Most of it was me. Some of it was the people I got to enjoy breakfast with, the conversation was good and I was mentally pumping myself up. Some days I wake up already ready to take on the world, some days I wake up sluggish and wanting no human interaction. Today started with me thinking I didn't want to get out of bed. I reminded myself that I have the power to make myself have a great day, which then effects those around me. Being able to stay positive and optimistic does beautiful things for the world. This is nothing new, however I think it is a good reminder. Below I am going share some steps that I take to have a good day: Mirror Talks One way I help myself get motivated for the day is to do mirror talks. It sounds a little strange, however a simple action can get your heart and mind hungry for success! This is exactly what it sounds like, look yourself in the mirror, and don't look at yourself, look at your eyes in the reflection that is given back. Take in the beauty, take a deep breath, and out loud, say what you want to accomplish that day. Tell yourself that YOU are in charge. "I have the power to make my day great and others. I am here for so long and this is what I want." List off ways your plan to make your dreams in to reality. Speak from your stomach and be your own coach. Have A Good Playlist I think music is magic. It has the ability to heal. If you have a good morning playlist nothing can bring you down. Spotify has this magical setting that creates a "Daily Mix" based on music that you already listen to. I started with acoustic covers and moved into more motivational songs. Now I feel pumped up for the day. People What's the saying, you are the average of the five people you spend the most time with? Well I'll be honest I spend a lot of time with a lot of people. However that average comes, I'll say I'm pretty happy with it! I choose to surround myself with people who support my crazy self, who love me for who I am, who motivate me to be better. Some..well most all, of the people that I have met here at UCM are really some of the coolest people ever! I have to take moments to appreciate that I get to be with them now. If I could thank their home friends and families for helping create such beautiful beings and vessels of light, I would, a thousand times! So choose the people who lift you up and go through this journey with them. SMILE Smile. It is a simple as that. Even when you feel bad, try to smile. It helps and can change your mood pretty quickly. YOU It all starts with you, all the things above are like accents to who you are and help. Ultimately who YOU choose to be and your mindset is up to you. Take time to be upset, take time to be grumpy, because that helps get the gunk outta ya. But don't stay in a slump if you can help it. Find at least one thing good that happens everyday. It doesn't have to directly have happened to you. Any experience you have. For instance, yesterday I was walking back to my dorm and the sunset and smell of the air made me physically smile like an idiot. It was such a good moment, and reminder that this life is truly beautiful. I hope this can help someone's Monday or week, because I know my week is about to be a roller coaster and I still haven't found the seatbelt, so I'm just gonna hold on for dear life. Let's go, we got this!!! Stay chill, happy, humble, and kind :) -Erin
