A Spark about Life

Not many people know (but could guess), I live my life by quotes. They give me something to aspire to be and offer comfort in hard times. Just past the middle of the fall semester I found this quote by Inky Johnson. I may have been listening to a podcast and someone said it. I remember immediately after hearing it I stopped everything that I was doing and looked it up. This quote is me on so many levels. I have always believed that if you go at things with a passion you will get more out of the experience. As far as the word zeal, I didn't know what it meant until last year when someone described me as "zealous." For those of you wondering, it means having a lot of energy or enthusiasm about certain things. I would say this is true. If I like something or someone, I like them a lot and tend to celebrate the presence of them or it. When I see other's reactions to my excitement, sometimes they are confused and probably think I'm crazy but once they see it a few times, they smile. Somehow this open, supportive characteristic has drawn people more toward me than away. Crazy, I know! But people depend on me for this excitement about small things. This is important. We need to celebrate one another more. Can we all be done tearing each other down, or avoiding acknowledging someone's success? Have you ever been celebrated? Do you remember how it felt? Well it feels almost that good, if not better celebrating someone else. To the second part of the quote, I know that each morning when I wake up there will be someone who watches what I do, in the classroom or outside of it. They will be paying attention and that is why I have to hold myself accountable for having a good attitude and not easily getting down. I know everyday when I wake up someone will need a listening ear and that might be me. I have to be passionate and listen. I have to be there for them because I know what it's like to not have that. Please write this quote down, hang it up, recite it every morning. May 2018 be a year for us to be more supportive of ourselves and others!!
